Some Self Help for the rest of us

We'll get through it together.

Hypnotism is the practice of a hypnotherapist guiding a subject into a meditative state. Unfortunately there is a lot of confusion around about what is and is not hypnotism. Ever since the beginning of hypnotism, people have been fascinated by it.

For some hypnotherapists, the goal of hypnotism is to move the patients mind into a state of meditation that allows them to more easily accept treatment for an underlying disorder. Only once the patient is in this state of hypnotized meditation cans one people receive the correct treatments.

Although only abut 25% of the population can be hypnotized easily, even less people, roughly 20%, cannot be hypnotized at all, according to a recent survey. Much more of the population lies in the middle with some ability to be hypnotized, and some ability to have disorders at least partially cured through hypnosis, although most people would agree it is certainly not an exact science.

In order to explain the process more fully, lets take a look at an example.

One of the more common uses of hypnosis is for patients to help smokers stop smoking, often when other methods they have tried have already failed. To treat this patient in hypnotism the hypnotists will first attempt to place the smoker into the meditative state of hypnosis. Once in this state the hypnotist will ask the smoker to first think about the negative results of their smoking and then later the positive results that would be experienced by the patient giving up smoking. These thoughts are also later verbalized as part of the hypnotism. With the help of the hypnotherapist the smokers perceptions about smoking can be changed to affect a cure that will last even after the hypnotism has finished.

Actively focusing on the negative and positive perceptions and the changes that have been learned during hypnotism is required for the patient to be successfully cured after the hypnotism sessions end.

Many people have found this sort of treatment to be very affective, and even encourage others to use it after successfully quitting smoking.

Don’t let fear of the unknown or the fear of trying something new hold you back from trying a treatment that really could change your life. Many people have tried this form of therapy and found it works for them, it could work for you as well.
